Your Argentine Adventure begins with a stay in Buenos Aires.
Explore La Boca on foot and learn about the local history and culture of this historic neighborhood. The barrio of La Boca is strongly European, particularly Italian with many of the original residents Genoese. It is situated close to the old port, to the southeast of the city, a working-class barrio and it is home to Maradona’s old beloved club, Boca Juniors. The tango was born in La Boca and the colored houses of Calle Caminito are a must see. Enjoy the vibe of the neighborhood filled with street performers, and tango dancers. Look out for statues of Argentine political figures like Eva Perón and Che Guevara, and soccer hero Diego Maradona peeking out from doorways and balconies.
El Chaltén is a scenic village within Los Glaciares National Park. It is known as the gateway to amazing trails surrounding the peaks of Cerro Torre and Mount Fitz Roy to the northwest.
This famous trek will bring you closer to the imposing walls of The Fitz Roy Massif and its surrounding granite peaks than any other. Passing through enchanting forests full of birds and other wildlife, you will experience lakes of different shades of blue fed by impressive glaciers which slowly sculpt their mountainous canvas. The unforgettable spectacle of Mount Fitz Roy is our reward when you reach the zenith and destination of our hike, Laguna de los Tres. Amidst this awe-inspiring landscape, you will have time to enjoy lunch on the shore in the company of icebergs while your guide answers your questions and provides you with information about the glaciers and ecosystem of this region. Your appreciation for life renewed, we will then begin our return journey back to El Chalten for a relaxing evening in town.
This classic El Chalten trek starts directly from town, and takes us through the Adela range, to the famous Laguna Torre at the foot of the mighty Cerro Torre. Hike through a forest of native lenga trees, where we can observe a number of endemic species of wildlife, including the Magellanic Woodpecker, Condor, Huemul, and perhaps even a puma. Upon arriving at the lake, we will walk the moraine beach and take in the amazing sight of the Torre Glacier and the icebergs which have calved from its face. Learn more about the movement of the glacier, and how it helped form the unique features of Cerro Torre. After a break that allows you time to enjoy lunch with amazing views, we will head back down through the glacial valley to El Chalten, where we will revel in the experience.
Experience the exhilaration of whitewater rafting in Los Glaciares National Park, during a 4-hour expedition. Paddle down the river towards Las Vueltas for approximately two miles in mainly calm waters, before hitting Class III to IV rapids for the next four miles. After the adrenaline rush, the route continues to the quiet Fitz Roy River for the last few miles. Along the way, you will see Mt. Fitz Roy, one of the most popular peaks in Patagonia. It is named for the captain of Charles Darwin’s ship, The Beagle.
Afterwards, continue to the town of El Calafate.
It is said that a visit to the Los Glaciares National Park is a “must” in a lifetime. There is no doubt that the Perito Moreno Glacier is the most beautiful of Los Glaciares National Park. It originates at the Continental Ice Field and descends through colossal mountains, to penetrate the waters of the Argentino Lake. This unique landscape is framed by the greenest of forests and the most colorful flowers.
Embark on a 20-minute navigation across the Rico Arm, enjoying breathtaking views of Perito Moreno Glacier’s front wall. Once on the ice, enjoy the two-hour circuit that introduces you to the fascinating landscape of the glaciers, streams, small lagoons, gullies, crevasses, and ice formations of the most incredible blues.
After lunch, continue to the glacier’s footbridges (viewpoints). From this point, you will clearly see ice blocks of different sizes continually detaching from the glacier and falling into the water, causing a tremendous sound and amazing waves which makes this view an unforgettable sight.
Start with an exciting chairlift ride to Calafate Balcony. On the way up, capture jaw-dropping panoramas of the arid steppes, Argentino Lake, the Andes mountains, and a bird’s-eye view of El Calafate.
During your 8-mile, mostly downhill ride, do not forget to catch the views, including new vantage points for El Calafate and Argentino Lake, as well as snowcapped Fitz Roy, the tallest peak in Los Glaciares National Park. Discover remote places around Laguna Escondida, a small lake located in the vast Hermoso Valley. Your terrain varies from dry and pebbly paths to soft and wide trails. The final leg of your route ends in a local town, where you can enjoy lunch on your own.
Fly to Buenos Aires and bid farewell to Argentina as you head out.
