Day 1: ARRIVE RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL

Day 2: RIO DE JANEIRO

Enjoy a full day exploration of Rio de Janeiro

Sugar Loaf Mountain rises up from a small peninsula at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined sugar loaf. Take a two-step cable ride to enjoy the beautiful views of the city. The first cable car takes you to the top of Urca Hill, which rises 705 feet above sea level and offers spectacular views of the entire bay and its islands. The second cable car takes you to the top, at 1,300 feet and offers a 360-degree view of the entire city, the Southern beaches, Corcovado and Niteroi Bridge lie in front of you.

The charming district of Santa Teresa is one of the most original of the city due to its unique hillside geography, history, and the alternative urban lifestyle it offers. This picturesque neighborhood that began as the site of a Carmelite convent (still here) in the 18th Century is home today to some of Brazil’s most vibrant artists – many of whom open their home studios to the public. Rio’s elegance and colorful artistic side are expressed in Santa Teresa’s lush flowers; large, elegant old houses; winding streets and breathtaking views.

Enjoy an overview of the downtown area with stops at the modern cathedral, Banco do Brasil Cultural Center, and the Casa Franca-Brasil (France-Brasil Foundation, and The Marechal Floriano Square, also known as Cinelandia, concentrates the best of late 18th century French-style architecture in Rio de Janeiro. The Municipal Theatre, a scaled-down copy of the Paris Opera; the Fine Arts Museum, and the National Library will also be stops during your tour. Enjoy lunch at the famed Confeiteria Colombo before heading back to your hotel.

Day 3: RIO DE JANEIRO

Continue your exploration of Rio de Janeiro with a jeep adventure and later, a samba class

Learn to cook traditional Brazilian dishes during this culinary experience in Salvador. With your local guide and a chef, visit the local market and learn about the best type of ingredients to use for traditional recipes such as ‘moqueca’, or fish stew, or any other meat of your choice. Stop by a local produce vendor to choose vegetables for the stew and fruit to use in ‘capirinhas’, a traditional Brazilian drink made with sugar cane liquor. Back at the chef’s house, engage in friendly, informal conversation about the history and culture of Salvador. Learn the secrets behind making a perfect stew, then sit down to eat with your new friends.

Head over to a local music studio and participate in a Brazilian percussion workshop. Get to know the rhythms and beats that provide the backdrop for Bahia’s famous Carnival celebrations. Listen to the music that is essential in the Samba de Roda and the Candomblé ceremony. Learn about the percussion’s roots in the African continent and how the tradition has transformed in modern Brazil.

Day 4: RIO DE JANEIRO / SALVADOR

The journey continues to Salvador

Enjoy a leisurely morning or afternoon today.  A two-hour flight delivers you to Salvador.

Day 5: SALVADOR

Venture out to explore the cobblestone streets of Salvador on tour of the historic center. Enjoy a private Percussion class

Begin with a visit to the Barra Lighthouse. The tour follows the Vitoria corridor, where the Bahia Art Museum and the Carlos Costa Pinto Museum, known as the Fan Museum and Balangandã, are located. This place is also known as the location of the concentration of Carnival blocks. We continue through Campo Grande Square, where one of the Carnival Circuits begins and we continue to Pelourinho, Historic Center of Salvador, with a stop in the Municipal Square, where you will enjoy the beautiful colorful panoramic view of the historic center. You will make a stop for a refreshing ice cream or cold drink before continuing. No tour of Salvador is complete without stopping at the Mercado Modelo (market), to take in the sights and sounds of the vendors and merchants that shop for goods daily. Make a stop at a candy vendor to sample some of the delicious sweets.

Day 6: SALVADOR / PRAIA DO FORTE

Travel by land to the coastal town of Praia do Forte

En-route, you will stop for a delicious lunch at a restaurant on the beach.  Arrive to your resort and settle in for a few days of fun on the beach.

Days 7-8: PRAIA DO FORTE

Spend two full day relaxing on white sand beaches or exploring the area on your own
